Following Kamal Haasan's controversial remark regarding origin of the Kannada language, 'Thug Life' was banned in Karnataka. According to a report by Pinkvilla, Raaj Kamal Films International confirmed that the ban resulted in a ₹30 crore loss for the film. Within 15 days of release, 'Thug Life' has earned ₹47.73 crore in net India collection.
