Deer across the US are developing tumour-like warts from a papillomavirus spread by ticks and mosquitoes. These growths, common in late summer and fall, are mostly harmless to deer and not contagious to humans. However, the insects spreading the virus can carry other diseases. Experts advise avoiding contact and protecting against insect bites.
