One in three children worldwide now have short-sightedness or myopia, with cases increasing after COVID-19 lockdowns, a study stated. Asia has highest rates, with 85% of children in Japan and 73% in South Korea affected. Researchers link increased screen time and close-up activities during lockdowns to worsening eyesight and warn that by 2050, over half of teenagers could have short-sightedness.
