Over 17 lakh silver jewellery items have been hallmarked in three months since the government made Hallmarking Unique Identification (HUID) mandatory for hallmarked silver articles. This reflects significant uptake among jewellers and consumers, an official statement noted. It introduces digital traceability and enhanced consumer protection against fake hallmarking practices.
