The first phase of the 2026 Census will begin with houselisting operations and housing census from April 1, 2026, Registrar General of India Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan said. He stated that supervisors and enumerators will be appointed before Census begins. Notably, Census will happen in two phases. The second phase of Census involving Population Enumeration will begin on February 1, 2027.
