National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken a suo motu cognisance of media reports revealing two Dalit men allegedly being beaten up, forced to eat grass and drink drain water, their heads tonsured, on suspicion of illegally smuggling cattle in Odisha's Ganjam district. The Opposition BJD had warned of statewide agitation if the ruling BJP government didn't take action.
