A Columbia University study found uranium in 78 percent of groundwater samples from eastern Karnataka - some levels 75 times above US EPA limits. The element becomes mobile under certain underground conditions, posing health risks. With over 25 crore people depending on groundwater, the study could help in safer well placement and water treatment planning.
