NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the issue of NATO membership for Ukraine wasn't discussed in the meeting held at White House, adding that 30 countries were working on a framework of security guarantees for Ukraine. "What we're discussing...is Article 5-type security guarantees for Ukraine," Rutte said. Article 5 of NATO's founding treaty enshrines the principle of collective defence.
