A 36-year-old female elephant, Mahadevi or Madhuri, was relocated from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, to an animal welfare centre run by Vantara in Gujarat's Jamnagar. The villagers bid an emotional farewell to her. The Supreme Court had upheld the Bombay High Court's decision to relocate Mahadevi, used for religious purposes, citing her "dismal" physical and mental health with the Kolhapur-based trust.
