India has increased MBBS seats by 39% over the past four years, from 83,275 in 2020-21 to 1,15,900 in 2024-25, government informed Parliament. Despite this expansion, 4,146 undergraduate medical seats went unfilled in 2022-23- the highest in recent years, Anupriya Patel, MoS for Health and Family Welfare said. Also number of vacant seats dropped to 2,849 in 2024-25, she added.
