A special CBI court in Mohali has sentenced five retired police officers to life imprisonment for killing seven people, including three special police officers, in fake encounters in 1993. The court described their conduct "not only unlawful, but also morally bankrupt and profoundly inhumane". A fine of ₹3.50 lakh was also imposed on each of the convicts.
