More than half of India's 667 tiger deaths from 2021 to 2025 happened outside protected reserves, as per National Tiger Conservation Authority data. The government plans to launch "Tigers Outside Tiger Reserves" project to protect tigers, who currently make up 30% of the estimated 3,682 tiger population. Data also showed that 1,519 tigers died between 2012 and 2024, outside reserves.
