Seven villages in Bihar’s Samastipur have collectively decided to ban DJs and limit the number of wedding guests (baraatis) to cut unnecessary expenses. The villagers resolved to eliminate dowry practices and also pledged to help underprivileged families with the marriage expenses of their daughters. They also decided to discourage showy celebrations that put a financial burden on poor families.
