As many as seven Israeli soldiers were killed during fighting in the southern Gaza after an armoured vehicle they were in was hit by an explosive device on Tuesday. The deaths raised Israel's toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with Gaza to 440. Hamas has claimed responsibility for the attack.
