As many as seven people were swept away in the strong currents downstream from Karnataka's Markonahalli Dam. Fifteen people had gone to the dam for picnic, out of which seven entered the water when the siphon system suddenly released water, creating a powerful flow. A man, identified as Nawaz, was rescued and admitted to Adichunchanagiri Hospital.
