A study by Sabar Institute and Azad Foundation found that 72% of women in Kolkata spend nearly 10% of their daily income on public toilets. The study noted that these toilets often lack soap, cleanliness, and safety, forcing many women to reduce water intake to avoid unhygienic facilities. Over 50% transgender people said they faced harassment inside toilet, study added.
