Eight children in the UK were born free of serious mitochondrial diseases through a three-parent IVF technique called pronuclear transfer, developed by Newcastle University. The method replaces faulty maternal mitochondria with donor mitochondria. Published in New England Journal of Medicine, the study reports healthy births, reduced mutation levels, and normal development in all children so far.
