A total of 2,616 candidates contested over 243 seats in Bihar. But 80.5% of all these candidates lost their ₹10,000 deposit, required to contest assembly elections, as they failed to win at least one-sixth of total vote share in their respective seats. The total forfeitures amounted to ₹2.12 crore with Independent candidates accounting for the largest share of forfeited deposits.
