Scientists have discovered 99-million-year-old amber fossils from Myanmar preserving a fly and an ant, with one of the fossils showing fungi erupting from the fly's skull. This is reportedly the oldest known example of "zombie fungi", which hijack their hosts' bodies before killing them. The fossilised fungi were named Paleoophiocordyceps gerontoformicae and Paleoophiocordyceps ironomyiae.
