Human body's metabolism has limits, a study stated. Even top athletes have a limit to how much energy their bodies can burn. Researchers tracked ultramarathon runners and discovered they could burn up to 11,000 calories a day during races, but couldn't maintain it for long. They said a "metabolic ceiling", beyond which the body begins to strain and performance declines.
