Astronomers have spotted V Sagittae, a white dwarf devouring its twin companion at an unprecedented rate in a rapid 12.3-hour orbit. Researchers predict their shrinking orbit will culminate in a spectacular supernova, visible from Earth 10,000 light-years away. They also discovered a gas ring around both stars, a byproduct of enormous energy produced by V Sagittae's consumption of its companion.
