A CAG report found that Uttarakhand’s forest divisions diverted ₹13.86 crore for various activities, including purchase of iPhones, other than compensatory afforestation in 2019-2022. As per guidelines, after the receipt of funds, afforestation should be conducted within a year, or two growing seasons. The report found that in 37 cases, compensatory afforestation was executed after over 8 years.
