Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said the use of Air Force would have slowed Chinese offensive considerably during the 1962 India-China war. Speaking about the war, he stated the forward policy should not have been applied uniformly to Ladakh and NEFA (North-East Frontier Agency) or present-day Arunachal Pradesh as they have different histories of dispute and different terrain.
