Exposure to air pollution during pregnancy can affect foetal brain development, according to a study published in The Lancet Planetary Health. Higher prenatal exposure to nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, and black carbon was linked to increased volumes in several brain regions containing cerebrospinal fluid. Black carbon exposure was also linked with reduced depth of brain’s lateral sulcus.
