The Delhi High Court said alimony cannot be awarded to a spouse if they're financially self-sufficient or independent. The court said this while upholding a family court order denying permanent alimony to a woman and granting divorce to her husband on the grounds of cruelty. It added permanent alimony isn't a tool for equalising financial status of two capable individuals.
