According to folklore, Goddess Bargabhima has been worshipped since the time of the Mahabharata. Significant among the 51 Shakti Peethas is the Bargabhima Temple, located in Tamluk, Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. As per Hindu mythology, the left heel of Devi Sati fell in Tamluk after her body was dismembered by Vishnu's Sudarshan Chakra, where the temple now stands.
