When asked about a lapse from the government's side after a stampede broke out at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar replied that the government arranged for 5,000 security personnel. "This is a young crowd, we can't use lathis," he added. Shivakumar urged people to remain calm after several people reportedly died in the stampede on Wednesday.
