Union Minister Amit Shah said Assam cannot be led by people who make frequent trips to Pakistan or sympathise with infiltrators. His comments came after Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP's criticism of Congress' Gaurav Gogoi over his wife's alleged connection with Pakistan's spy agency, ISI. Sarma claimed that Gogoi's wife had travelled 19 times between India and Pakistan.
