Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state's Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) dropped from 490 (2001-03) to 125 (2020-22). "Assam is no longer the highest MMR state of India...It's now better than MP (159), Chhattisgarh (141), UP (141) and Odisha (136) as per Sample Registration System 2020-22," he said. Sarma added that the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has also improved.
