For the first time, astronomers obtained visual evidence of a star detonating twice. The twin eruption was discovered by studying SNR 0509-67.5, a remnant of a star that met its explosive demise in a type Ia supernova centuries ago. The study proposes that an unstable helium blanket around white dwarfs explodes, generating a shockwave, triggering second detonation in star's core.
