Australia has approved a world-first, single-dose vaccine to protect koalas from chlamydia, a disease causing up to half of wild koala deaths and threatening extinction. Developed over a decade, the vaccine reduces symptoms and deaths among wild koalas by at least 65%. Koalas are listed as endangered species in two Australian states and the Australian Capital Territory.
