Police reiterated that grave digging and corpse use in rituals, even if religiously rooted, are criminal acts. They condemned the misuse of tradition and charged five monks for dancing with human body parts dug-up from the graves during the annual Kodai festival in Tirunelveli. The monks were charged under sections related to public nuisance, trespassing, and spreading infection.
