Eight babies have been born in the UK through IVF using DNA from three people to prevent genetic disorders. The method combines the egg and sperm of the parents with a second egg from a donor woman. The donor woman's egg is used to replace faulty mitochondrial DNA, which is responsible for powering the cells in the body.
