Researchers have engineered a non-infectious laboratory strain of bacteria that produces a green fluorescent signal to detect microplastics. The biosensor can detect microplastics in seawater samples up to 100 parts per million. According to lead author Song Lin Chua, this method will help to quickly spot pollution hotspots and make large-scale monitoring easier.
