Built in 1485, the most intriguing feature of Battisi Baoli in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, is its mysteriously constant water level, which remains unchanged throughout the year. An inscription at the entrance claims that the stepwell's water level will remain unchanged as long as the oceans have water. It has 32 ghats, giving it the name 'Battisi', meaning thirty-two.
