Amid an escalating political firestorm, the Centre's proposal to bring Chandigarh under Article 240 of Constitution through 131st Amendment Bill has stirred controversy. Ravneet Singh Bittu, Union Minister of State for Railways, dismissed the uproar as "deliberate rumour-mongering". He reaffirmed that "nothing, absolutely nothing, is happening that affects Punjab's rights over Chandigarh."
