There are allegations that a good number of Bangladeshi nationals are residing in West Bengal's Basirhat near Bangladesh border and even acquired Indian IDs. Local BJP leader Abdur Rouf Sardar said, "There are many Bangladeshis scattered in Basirhat South assembly constituency who do not plan to leave despite SIR. They have fraudulently entered their names in the Indian voter list."
