BJP Jharkhand President and first CM of the state Babulal Marandi won from Dhanwar seat with margin of 35,438 votes, defeating JMM's Nizamuddin Ansari. Marandi got 1,06,296 votes, as per ECI's data. In 2019 Assembly polls, Babulal won from Dhanwar with 52,352 votes. Marandi was earlier a part of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, which ultimately merged with BJP in February 2020.
