BJP MLA Ganesh Gaonkar was elected as Speaker of the Goa Assembly on Thursday, securing 32 votes against Congress candidate Altone D'Costa, who managed seven. The post had fallen vacant last month after Ramesh Tawadkar resigned to join the state cabinet. This is Gaonkar's second stint as Speaker, having earlier served as pro-tem Speaker after the BJP’s 2022 victory.
