Samajwadi Party leader Manoj Yadav called the conviction of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's son and now-disqualified UP MLA Abbas Ansari in 2022 hate speech case "extremely unfortunate". He alleged, "BJP is using courts to create a divide...so many BJP leaders spread hate speech, but no action...taken against them." He was disqualified from UP Assembly after his conviction in the case.
