Researchers at the Pennsylvania State University have developed a breath sensor to identify diabetes and prediabetes in minutes, unlike the current testing methods, which require blood or lab visits. The sensor can detect acetone in breath, a natural byproduct of fat metabolism. The levels of acetone above 1.8 parts per million signal diabetes risk, one of the researchers said.
