The Union Cabinet has approved the payment of a productivity-linked bonus of ₹1865.68 crore for Railways employees ahead of Diwali. The bonus, which is equivalent to 78 days of wages, will benefit 10.91 lakh employees. Earlier, Finance Ministry had issued an office memorandum that directed all government offices not to buy gifts for Diwali and other festivals using public money.
