Researchers from AIIMS Delhi, McMaster University in Canada, and IARC in France have highlighted the need to record smoking status during cancer clinical trials. A study, published in Lancet Oncology, stated that smoking during treatment can reduce treatment effectiveness and patient survival. It also noted that knowing a patient's smoking status could help guide clinical decisions.
