The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has opposed West Bengal government's appeal in Calcutta High Court for death sentence instead of life term for RG Kar rape-murder convict Sanjay Roy. "Only the prosecuting agency can challenge the sentence on grounds of inadequacy," CBI told HC, adding that West Bengal government lacks jurisdiction. CBI had also sought death sentence for Roy.
