Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the Centre and states could earn up to ₹40,000-crore GST if all 97 lakh unfit and polluting vehicles are scrapped. He said 70 lakh jobs will be created and automobile component costs may fall by 25% if the vehicles are scrapped. Until August, three lakh unfit and polluting vehicles have been scrapped, he added.
