The Centre has sanctioned ₹1,200 crore for upgrading the 63 km Phulbari–Tura road in West Garo Hills in Meghalaya to a two-lane highway with paved shoulders under JICA funding. Work on one package worth ₹504 crore began in May, while another ₹737 crore package is under bidding. The project is set for completion by 2027.
