The central government has conferred 'Mini Ratna' status on Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), marking a major turnaround after decades of financial struggle. Established in 1941, the Visakhapatnam-based shipyard achieved profitability and positive net worth in FY2024-25. The new status gives HSL greater operational autonomy and boosts its modernisation and naval project capabilities.
