Congress' Jairam Ramesh accused the Centre of pushing ordinary citizens into debt and said all policies were made only for government's "capitalist friends". "Why is every citizen of India in debt of ₹4,80,000?" he said. A report by Reserve Bank of India revealed that per capita debt of borrowers jumped from ₹3.9 lakh in 2023 to ₹4.8 lakh in 2024.
