The government is reportedly examining a mega-merger plan under which several smaller state-run lenders could be merged with the larger ones over the next five years. Potential smaller merger candidates are Indian Overseas Bank, Central Bank of India, Bank of India, and Bank of Maharashtra. The larger candidates are State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, and Bank of Baroda.
