Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will conduct the first-ever Household Income Survey, tentatively in 2026. The ministry aims to use the survey to understand income distribution and welfare across households. A Technical Expert Group has been set up for the survey, and ex-Executive Director for India at the International Monetary Fund, Surjit Bhalla, will chair the group.
